Sometimes a team just can't catch a break.
That was the case with Ohio on Friday. The Bobcats outshot Cleveland State 15-7 and had more shots on goal, but were still outscored 2-1.
Typically
in a game like that you'd expect to come away (with the win) coach Stacy Strauss said. I think they were pretty opportunistic and we were not able to take advantage of the chances we had.
Laura Dieter, a freshman forward, tallied three shots on goal ' Cleveland State (2-4-0) only had four as a team. Amy Lower, a junior forward, scored the lone goal for the Bobcats. Both players attributed part of the loss to some bad luck the team has had of late.
We have the run of play and we are obviously
clearly dominating
and it just doesn't go our way
Lower said.
We've had bad luck and just haven't been able to get (the ball) in the back of the net lately
Dieter said. We just need to keep shooting and eventually we'll get it in the back of the net.
In the 49th minute, Lower was able to handle a pass from Erika Schmitt and knock it in, tying the game at one.
It was a really good ball played in by (Erika) Schmitt
and (Laura) Dieter made a good run past it
and I was just concentrating on getting the ball and settling it down close to my body so I could get a good hit
Lower said of her second-half goal.
The goal marked the first score by Ohio this month, as it had been held scoreless for five consecutive halves. Prior to this game, Ohio (1-4-0) had also been out-shot by its opponents 72-26.
Dieter said after the game that this was one of the best games the team has played.
I think we're going to continue to get better
but we had a better work rate today. I think if we keep it up and keeping working together like we are we'll
