Bids for construction on Athens County Neighborhood Facility Project were accepted at the Athens County Commissioners meeting yesterday.
The commissioners passed a motion to accept a bid from Brian Brothers Painting and Restoration from Piqua, Ohio, pending further investigation from the Hocking-Athens-Perry Community Action Program (HAPCAP).
The construction project is the Federal Valley Resource Center in Stewart, Ohio, said HAPCAP Community Development Specialist Rebecca Starlin. -
she said.
Starlin said most of the work is going to be masonry repair and other preventative tasks like brick cleaning and sealing.
An amendment to the community development block grant was also approved, sending $16,150 left over from the bike path sealing and repairing project to a construction project on American Legion Post 229. The construction on the post includes mortar and window repairs.
Both activities meet the national objective of benefiting low and moderate income individuals Starlin said.
During the meeting, former county dog warden Lana Planisek was named a humane officer acting as an interim consultant to the Athens County Dog Shelter while new warden Jeff Koons continues training.
Commissioner Lenny Eliason said that the humane investigators are able to handle more situations outside the scope of the dog warden, who is only given authority over dogs.
Eliason said the consultant could investigate issues with other animals like horses.
A humane officer is the only one that can file charges not the dog warden
Eliason said.
The commissioners also approved utility permits that would allow construction of an underground fiber optic cable to Murray City.
Representatives from Time Warner were present and said that the underground cable would be an upgrade to the cable services for residents of Murray City.-
