No parking will be allowed on state Route 682 beginning Oct. 28, the day of the Ohio versus Buffalo game, city officials said at the Athens City Council meeting Monday.
Because it is a limited access highway, state law prohibits parking on the shoulder for safety reasons. City officials decided to enforce the law because the volume of people walking to football games along the road is unsafe, said Mayor Paul Wiehl.
There is no space on the shoulder to walk
said Councilwoman Chris Knisely, D-at large.
So many people were parking on state Route 682 that cars would be lined up to the junction with state Route 50, Wiehl said.
The Athens Police Department will enforce this rule at all hours.
