The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and various Athens city officials urged residents to become active participants in protecting drinking water sources at an outreach education program held at the Athens Community Center yesterday.

City officials are working on revising the wellhead protection ordinance in response to concerns expressed by residents regarding questionable construction fills in the wellhead area, Cooper said.
Revisions to the ordinance will be presented during the city council meeting on Monday, said Councilman Elahu Gosney (D At-large).
The forum was organized by the Wellhead Protection Program, a sector of the Ohio EPA Division of Drinking and Ground Waters that aims to help provide assistance to businesses and residents interested in protecting public water supplies.
