Yesterday's first and second rounds of the Xavier Invitational provided a memorable day of golf for junior Chad Warmbein, who leads the team after a career-best six-under par 66.
Warmbein's impressive outing, which totaled 139 when combined his other 18-hole score yesterday, is tied for the fourth-best round in Ohio school history and he is tied for seventh in the 20-team, 100-golfer field.
Chad played great today
said coach Bob Cooley. He got off to a really good start and did not make one bogey all afternoon.
Cooley added that Warmbein hit seventeen out of eighteen greens in his second round to go along with six birdies, including two coming on par 5's. Warmbein walked off the course in fine fashion ' his last birdie was on the last hole of the day.- but struggled while dealing with some sort of cold stated Cooley.
Gusweiler and fellow junior Stewart Jamieson were next in line for the Bobcats with scores of 147 and 151, respectively, leaving Gusweiler in a tie for 50th and Jamieson tied in 77th place.
Despite Warmbein's outstanding performance, the Bobcats are currently locked in a 16th place at the Oasis Country Club in Cincinnati.
Cooley said the rest of the team struggled, mostly because of tee shots, but hopes to fix some of the problems before today's final round.
We are going to try to straighten a couple (players) out on the driving range tomorrow morning before we go out
he said.
Warmbein picked a fine time to up his game. The invitational is Ohio's final tournament of the season.
This is a really good field with a lot of good teams
and this has given Chad a lot of confidence
said Cooley.
