Mimi Morrison wants people to escape the daily bustle and just slow down.
If you can connect to the earth nothing ever has the same feeling
Morrison, an Athens native and owner of Touch the Earth Adventures, said.
Morrison leads people on hiking, kayaking, bird watching and cycling trips throughout the year in the area and around the country.
Morrison said she has been active in recreational activities since a young age, but felt inspired to share these experiences with others in the early '90s while traveling through the Canadian wilderness. Morrison started leading trips in 1994. Her main mission is for people to slow down and connect with the earth.
Today Morrison hosts a variety of daily and weekend events, including three-hour kayaking trips and weekend retreats in Hocking Hills. Although the trips were originally designed for women, Morrison now does trips for families and men as well.
Jackie Fokes of Athens said she enjoys the kayaking trips because they allow her to relax.
You have the independence of being on your own you get exercise relaxation
quietness and stillness
Fokes said. Others use the trip to escape from hectic day-to-day schedules.
Participating in these trips provides quite a contrast from the hectic part of the day
said Gerry Hilferty of Athens. -
