Potential mail office would clear East Green RAs of filing duties

The Ohio University Student Senate is recommending a central mail office for East Green, modeled after Nelson Hall's office that now serves New South, be added to Jefferson Hall during its renovation.

For students in the Front Four or dormitories not on South Green, mail is shipped from the Athens Post Office on Stimson Avenue to an office on each green, where it is then sorted by Residence Life employees and sent to the residence halls. There, RAs file them into individual mailboxes.

I kind of feel like it makes for more of a hindrance because the RA could be more efficient without (doing that job)

said Johnson Hall RA and Student Senator Emily Shuki.

Residents of Adams Hall and New South have mailboxes stationed in Nelson Hall, where the mail is dropped off, sorted by university employees and students can then pick it up on the spot.

- who really has nothing to do with the mail Shuki said. -

Shuki said. It makes me nervous

to be quite honest.

Residence Life cleared RAs filing mail with the Athens Post Office, said Director Judy Piercy. -

said Manager of Miami University Mail Services Anita Byrd.

OU RAs are not paid specifically for their work with the mail, but rather as part of their total salary.

They do it when they're on duty

so it's part of their jobs for the night

Piercy said.
