That whooshing sound heard honing in closer to Athens is the dizzying flurry of psychedelics, punk and progressive grind core as An Albatross swoops into town this Sunday.
We all dig the metaphor of the (albatross being) known for its gracefulness in the air but is also clumsy on earth
said lead singer Eddie Gieda.
Originating nine years ago in Wilkes-Barre, Penn., An Albatross has made many adjustments to their lineup over the years; the current members include percussionist Stevie Vaiani, Phillip Reynolds Price on the organ and synthesizers, guitarist Jaek Lisowski, bassist Jason Hudak, guitarist Daniel Schlett and Gieda.
Over the years the band has also developed an extensive and abstract discography, including three full-length albums: Eat Lightning, Shit Thunder in 2001, Blessphemy (Of the Peace Beast Feastgiver and the Bear Warp Kumite) in 2006 and An Albatross Family Album, which will be released Tuesday on Eyeball Records.
A lot of the ideas in those songs come from metaphorical poetry and are really sensational and serve as an amusing sort of metaphor for a much bigger spiritual social and political picture
Gieda said. In our hometown
there wasn't much happening avant garde or performance-based
fringe sort of music
so I definitely think we were an anomaly.
However fringe An Albatross may be, Gieda said that the music does not exude a haphazard sound, but rather layers the various instruments over each other like an orchestra.
(Previous albums) are like five or six people soloing against each other
Gieda said. I just think it's an evolution of our band. We have taken a different approach to songwriting in the past year. G? The influence from other members was minimal compared to now; we have a bigger level of combination.
In promotion of their new sound and album, the band is starting their next tour with the band White Mice in November, and is closing in on 1,000 performances.
We are really enamored with touring
we all dig Vienna
Prague along with California
Montreal
