Ohio University Student Senate and Graduate Student Senate representatives discussed the creation of a joint committee that would address overarching student concerns.
There are a lot of issues that affect students regardless of class rank
said Stephan Oechsle, graduate student senate's vice president for committees and legislative affairs. We feel like we can have a better more cohesive representation of those issues if we have a joint committee he said.

said Sally Neidhard, vice president of Student Senate. I am just not 100 percent sold on addressing the language in the constitution yet
she said.
The creation of a new committee would require a change in Student Senate's constitution, which must be approved by the Board of Trustees and the OU student body.
I'm not completely sure if I am comfortable with changing our constitution yet
Tokarsky said.
Oechsle said GSS wants to present a united front regarding women's, minority and LGBT rights. Similar to other organizations, the committee would apply for funding from the Student Senate's Student Activities Commission, he said.
Last year, GSS and Student Senate were unable to reach an agreement about the creation of the committee.
I think it is fair to say that the conversation that happened last year got very confrontational
Oechsle said. Not because so much the content of the conversations
but because of the personalities involved
he said.
Oechsle said the relationship between GSS and Student Senate is more positive this year.
I feel like there has been a change in the Student Senate and
admittedly
a change in our own organization towards wanting to be more cooperative
