Student Senate treasurer resigns, personal reasons cited

Ohio University Student Senate Treasurer Maleka Anderson resigned her position Sunday citing, personal issues for her departure.

Anderson, who also serves on the Judicial Hearing Boards, became the only Birthday Party candidate to be elected to an executive position last spring after all other party candidates were disqualified by the student board of election because of incomplete applications.

Michael Adeyanju, president of the student senate, said her resignation was sudden

adding that he did not expect it. - he said. I hadn't talked to Malika in about a month so I had no idea what was going on.

According to Tokarsky, Anderson had missed office hours over the past month.

I really feel bad for her

he said when asked about Anderson's situation, adding that she was a really lovely person.

Student Activities Committee Commissioner Chauncey Jackson said he did not have the same experience with the Anderson's performance as Tokarsky.

Treasurer Anderson had missed a few office hours

but again

she had some personal issues going on

he said. I don't know if it was a month G

but I can assure that

as far as SAC was concerned

everything was taken care of.

Maleka Anderson could not be reached to comment on her resignation.

The student senate entered executive session Wednesday night following their weekly meeting. At the time, Vice President Sally Neidhard refused to offer a reason for the private session.

According to Adeyanju, the meeting was convened to discuss a personnel issue.

A new treasurer will be elected Wednesday during the senate's regular general assembly meeting by a plurality of ballots cast, Adeyanju said.

Even though Anderson will no longer have an official role in the senate, Adeyanju said, she is always welcome to offer her ideas for the senate's consideration.
