This year I decided to go to see the Homecoming parade. The theme this year, as you probably know, was Go Green. I loved the idea of this theme because it is a huge concern for everyone in the U.S., and it also implies team spirit for the Bobcats.
During the parade, I noticed that even though the theme was about helping the environment, a lot of cars and trucks were used for the parade celebration. I found this odd because isn't one of the hot environmental topics about our consumption of oil and the pollution from our cars?
On top of that, when the parade was over, there were candy wrappers, fliers, bottles and other trash all over Court Street! I was appalled at how much trash there was. It looked like the morning after Halloween!
If our school says they're concerned with the environment, then why didn't they think about how much pollution is created during the parade, which is supposed to be eco-friendly? I believe that if the university really wants to help the environment, they need to DO so, not SAY so.
