According to research from Ohio University's Psychology Department's Laboratory on Sexual Assault Prevention (2007) in one academic quarter, 1 in 35 Ohio University women were raped and 1 in 8 experienced another form of sexual assault. You need only to speak with our local domestic violence shelter and with the numerous social workers, counselors, educators and psychologists in the area to learn that sexual and intimate partner violence plague our community, as well as our nation.
On Saturday October 18th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Athens Public Library, the Athens Sexual Violence Prevention Coalition, with support from other area organizations and businesses, is hosting a conference entitled Community Solutions: Engaging Men
the Campus and Community to Prevent Sexual Violence. The conference will feature Rus Funk, MSW, who has 25 years experience working with social, racial, gender and sexual issues across the country.- 17
