In responding to Professor Deeter-Schmelz's letter regarding faculty unions and faculty salaries, Professor Joseph Bernt acknowledged that salaries in Ohio's universities seem to be linked to university stature rather than presence or absence of collective bargaining agreements.-
the policies adopted under this section are not appropriate subjects for collective bargaining. Notwithstanding division (A) of section 4117.10 of the Revised Code any policy adopted under this section by a board of trustees prevails over any conflicting provisions of any collective bargaining agreement between an employees [sic] organization and that board of trustees. This section of Ohio Revised Code was adopted in 1993, ultimately withstood legal challenges, and is the law today in the State of Ohio.Tom Daniels is a professor of communication studies.
