Naturally, October is the time when restaurants try to add fall produce
to their menus, but I'm not sure you could consider the Pumpkin Pie
Blizzard at Dairy Queen any sort of produce. But when they scooped a
glob of pumpkin from the can and blended it with soft serve, pie crust
pieces, cinnamon and whipped cream, I was willing to overlook the
freshness factor. Pumpkin flavored things are probably an acquired
taste, or a love-it-or-hate-it thing (considering the disgusted face my
friend made when she saw it), but it's one of the reasons I love this
time of year. Plus, about 15 minutes from my hometown is the Velvet Ice
Cream headquarters, where they serve some of the best pumpkin ice cream
around this time of year. You can have a taste at the stations in the
dining halls, I was excited to find out.
Ice cream in 40 degree weather? If it's pumpkin pie flavored, I'll sacrifice the body heat.
