Graduate student senate: University looks to improve Hudson with 3-year plan

Ohio University officials presented a three-year plan to Graduate Student Senate for improvements to Hudson Health Center funded by an optional $40 fee that could become mandatory if the university approves plans for a renovation.

The WellBeing plan, a $40 fee that largely waives co-payments at Hudson, has allowed for increased hours and new services, but more work still needs to be done to improve Hudson's health, said Rich Carpinelli, associate vice president for budget and operations, at last night's senate meeting.

Hudson Health Center is certainly a facility that is woefully inadequate for the kinds of services we want to provide

Carpinelli said.

To pay for a renovation that could cost up to $12 million, OU is considering options such as making the WellBeing plan mandatory. OU expects to begin planning a renovation with an architectural firm Dec. 1.

The WellBeing plan consists of a $40 quarterly fee that students are automatically charged unless they opt out. The fee covers up to $15 in co-payments and provides 13 individual counseling sessions per year. - 17
