An Amesville man charged with eight felonies was held on a $200,000 bond yesterday after threatening to kill someone he accused of snitching, according to court documents.
County prosecutors charged Roy R. Sheets, 46, with seven felonies yesterday for crimes ranging from arson to auto theft. After he was released, Sheets apparently threatened to kill a person he thought helped sheriff's deputies investigate him, according to court documents.
Sheets landed back in court with a new felony charge and Judge William Grim held him on $200,000 bond. Sheets was taken to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.
Sheets' first two felony charges, arson and aggravated arson, stem from a fire that destroyed a building on Bryson Road. Prosecutors say the structure collapsed while firefighters were nearby, nearly striking several of them, according to the complaint. Aggravated arson, a first-degree felony, is punishable by three to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.
The second case against Sheets contains five felony charges. Deputies found Sheets with two stolen cars and a stolen bolt-action rifle. Each earned Sheets a fourth-degree felony, punishable by six to 18 months in prison and a fine of up to $5,000. For using his Ford truck and a 16-foot trailer to haul away the stolen cars, prosecutors charged Sheets with two fifth-degree felonies. Each fifth-degree felony is punishable by six to 12 months in prison and a fine of up to $2,500.
Sheets will appear before Grim at 2 p.m. on Jan. 27 for a preliminary hearing in Municipal Court.
