Men's Basketball Notebook: Bowling Green slows up Ohio, captures win

Bowling Green's style of play might not be fun to watch, but for one game at least, it proved effective.

The Falcons' 2-3 zone worked to perfection in their 52-51 win over Ohio Saturday at The Convo. The Bobcats shot a season-low 27 percent from the field, scored a season-low 51 points and had a season-low 13 field goals.

Ohio also shot just 28 percent from 3-point range, the lowest mark since the Bobcats shot 3-of-15 (20 percent) against Holy Cross on Dec. 22.

Bowling Green forward Chris Knight said that the Falcons' plan was to shut down Jerome Tillman, who shot just 3-of-15 from the field.

Our game plan was to have a man and a half on Tillman

Knight said. We just played hard and played with intensity.

With just 52 points on the day, it wouldn't appear that Bowling Green's offense posed much of a problem to the Bobcats.

But it did.

The Falcons milked the shot clock on virtually every possession, not only wearing down the Bobcat defenders, but also forcing Ohio to play at a slower pace than it would have liked.

We really didn't get a chance to run as much as we wanted to Tillman said. That zone just kind of slowed things up.
