Ohio University officials named a new executive director of Communications and Marketing yesterday.
Renea Morris, a native of Chicago, has 20 years of experience in public relations and lists media relations, employee communications and crisis management among her areas of expertise.
I was drawn to Ohio University from the moment I stepped on campus
Morris said. Not only am I excited about the position I am more honored and humbled by (the search committee's confidence in me).
Beating out more than 80 applicants, Morris stood out with the most positive feedback from students, faculty and staff, said Rebecca Watts, Chief of Staff to President Roderick McDavis.
Morris succeeds Joe Brennan, who began a new job last February at State University of New York at Buffalo.
Beginning Feb. 2, Morris, who signed a five-year contract, will earn $157,500 yearly - $7,500 more than Brennan.
She will be creating fostering and promoting the image of the university
Watts said.
Recently, Morris worked for the Cincinnati-based Convergys Corporation, where she was director of public relations and managed endowments to the Convergys Foundation.
The experiences that I gained from working with Convergys Corporation just fits so well with what OU needs and is looking for
she said.
Previously, Morris worked as a corporate communications manager for Youth Job Awareness Project, a non-profit employment company in Los Angeles. There she managed local and national media relations, fundraising and speechwriting, among other duties.
My job is to put Ohio University on the map and in the minds of students
Morris said. I think we have a great opportunity to show what OU has to offer.
