Even with a huge meet looming against rival Miami this Saturday, Ohio didn't look ahead and bested Conference USA's Marshall Thundering Herd, 175-125, in Huntington, W.Va., yesterday.
It was the team's fifth-straight dual meet victory.
Overall
I was pretty happy with our performance said coach Greg Werner. Our team adjusted to a tough environment. It's always tough to swim right after getting off the bus.
With the standout performance of the day, sophomore Amanda Cecere swam for Ohio's fastest 1000-yard freestyle of the season, finishing in 10:14.80. Cecere also came in first in the 200 backstroke.
Sophomore Stella Johnson and junior Chelsea Bower also had solid meets. Johnson won the 200 breaststroke and was a part of the 400 medley that came in first. Bower won the 100 and 200 freestyle.
Werner saw encouraging signs on the water from a lot of his swimmers.
We're getting better with each meet and I think we set ourselves up well for our meet this Saturday with Miami
Werner said.
It was Ohio's sixth-straight win overall, including the first-place trophy at the Zippy Invitational. The tone around the team is energetic and excited.
We're very upbeat and happy where we're at
but we're still training tough
Werner said.
The swimmers agreed.
The energy level around the team is really high and we all can't wait for this weekend against Miami
Johnson said.
The Bobcats are optimistic about the rest of the season.
I definitely believe our best is still to come
Cecere said. We usually do some great things in January after training so hard in December
and we're all ready to prove that against Miami and Eastern Michigan.
Johnson offered a similar perspective.
Our best is for sure still to come. We're just trying to get better and better until the (Mid-American Conference) championships
she said.
