Miami might have halted Ohio's six-meet win streak, but the Bobcats aren't allowing the loss to get them down.
The Bobcats are moving on and learning from their mistakes as they build toward the last month of the season.
This is actually a great loss to rebound from
coach Greg Werner said. I want to win but I was more proud that we went down fighting instead of quitting on ourselves.
Junior Chelsea Bower had similar thoughts about the loss.
I'd say it was our best meet Bower said. The competitiveness was high and some of our girls had the best performances of their lives.
Even though the loss stung, Werner and his swimmers realize that nothing really matters until they head into the MAC Championships at the end of February.
The meet gave us a good perspective of where we are in the conference and what we need to do to get better
Werner said. I told our girls it doesn't matter
0-10 or 10-0 in dual meets
all that matters is what happens in the championships.
Losing to its conference rival also gave Ohio a little extra motivation.
Werner hopes the effect echoes last year when MAC favorite Toledo defeated the Bobcats, 184-116. Ohio bounced back to win the MAC Championships.
Our swimmers have come to learn that the dual meet season is much different than the championships
Werner said. Last year we got the job done after we lost to Toledo
and this team has matured and believes the same thing can happen.
Ohio (5-3, 2-3 MAC) is hoping to get back to winning. Kenyon College and Xavier University come to Athens today for a tri-meet, and Ball State rolls in Saturday for a conference dual meeet.
Werner said that the meets this weekend have huge implications. He will narrow down who swims for the conference championships based on these performances.
This may be their last chance to have great performances
Werner said. I believe they will all try their best to be a member of the final team.
