Ohio's six-meet winning streak was broken on Saturday.
Miami, who is currently ranked No.1 in the Mid-American Conference, won 10 of 16 events on its way to a 165.5-132.5 win over the Bobcats at the Nixon Aquatic Center.
Ohio (5-3, 2-3 MAC) lost both relay events as the RedHawks (9-1, 5-0 MAC) outscored the Bobcats 26-8 in the relays.
We felt that we needed to win at least one of the relays to win the meet
coach Greg Werner said.
Werner noted that Miami is the best team Ohio has faced all year and that the RedHawks lived up to their strong ranking.
The team also said that the rivalry seemed a little deflated compared to past years.
They had a marching band there sophomore Amanda Cecere said. It started out being intense then it just kind of turned into a normal meet.
It's not usually good news when a player is below full health, but in Stacey Huber's case, it was probably the only good news from the weekend.
Huber's first-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:12.00), despite being hampered by a foot injury, only begs the question of what she could do at full health.
It's a good feeling
Huber said. It makes me feel better that I'm not behind.
Huber broke her foot during the summer while taking a self-defense class.
The sophomore also finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:01.84.
Although stories like Huber's were few and far between on Saturday, Werner said when Ohio faces Miami in the MAC Championships, the RedHawks will see a different team.
We are going to continue what we are doing
Werner said. We are on course to doing the right thing. We are going to trust the work we have done and allow us to recover.
We are hoping to be a faster team.
