Every person has a few vices in life, but making music is not one of them for the members of Athens folk and roll band The Vice Versas.
We like how 'vice versa' means this way or that way
and we started playing acoustically and we went more electric said singer and guitarist Victor Rasgaitis, originally of Bay Village. Now we'll sometimes play a 'Vice' show
which is more electric and heavy music and then a 'Versa' show
which is much more acoustic driven
like when we play at the Front Room.
This musical diversity has attracted different kinds of fans to the band, which first began playing shows last April, and enables the band members' own varying inspirations to shine through.
Drummer Johnny Barton of Westerville and bassist Wes Woodall of Greenville come from a ska background, listening to bands like The Gay Blades. Guitarist Kyle Kurz, also of Greenville, originally played hardcore music, and Rasgaitis cut his musical teeth on folk and classic rock music.
We are a weird group because I feel like bands usually come together over one style of music
but we came together over the fact that we're friends and just wanted to play
Rasgaitis said.
The collaborative effort extends beyond genre, as the band recently began writing all of their material together as well. This doesn't mean that the band strays from the tried and true topics of songwriting, though.
Mostly our songs are about girls
being in love
girls breaking our hearts and girls being crazy
Rasgaitis said.
Along with being girl crazy
