A thief made off with Wendy's neon Open Late sign at 3 a.m. yesterday, leaving police searching for a white, college-aged man with short, brown hair.
The Athens Police Department hasn't identified any suspects in the case, according to a news release. The missing sign, valued at $150, hung in the restaurant's window for several years, Wendy's co-manager Alicia Barnes said.
There weren't a whole lot of people in here when the sign was stolen, she said, adding people often try to steal things from Wendy's, 40 S. Court St. Chairs and change-donation boxes on the counter have struck the fancy of thieves before, but never a sign, she added.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the red-and-yellow neon sign should call Athens Police at 592-3313.
