Wrestling: Lindsey to face off against ranked rival

Last season against Kent State, Germane Lindsey took Drew Lashaway into overtime before losing 6-4.

Lindsey then met Lashaway in the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament, but lost 10-4. Lindsey won two matches in the loser's bracket, and then met Lashaway again in the semifinals.

He lost. This time, it was 2-1.

Lindsey will get yet another chance to face No. 12 ranked Lashaway tonight at Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center in Kent. Lindsey compared his losing battles with Lashaway to some of the greatest clashes of all time.

If you look at Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier

probably hands down the best pair of fighters ever Lindsey (141 pounds) said. And eventually Frazier beat him.

Lindsey said that wrestling the same guy so many times wears you down mentally. He added that it is hard to beat an opponent four times in a row.

Coach (Joel) Greenlee told me I'm going to wear him down he said. This guy doesn't want to wrestle that kind of style

so I think this time I can get him.

Lindsey's match is indicative of how tough the dual will be for the Bobcats.

I don't think we match up with them real well

Greenlee said.

In addition to Lashaway, No. 22 Kent State has No. 17 Danny Mitcheff (133 pounds), No. 5 Dustin Kilgore (184 pounds) and No. 4 Jermail Porter (Heavyweight).

The Bobcats don't have anybody currently ranked in the top 20, but Greenlee said Ohio might be able to win the dual meet if they can win some of the close matches.

Greenlee said 133 pounds, 141 pounds, 149 pounds, 157 pounds, 165 pounds, 174 pounds, and 197 all have the potential to be pretty dang good matches.

Last year, there were only a few good matches for Ohio, as Kent State won 33-3.

Clay Tucker (157 pounds) was the only Ohio wrestler to notch a victory. Last year, he defeated Sli Bostelman, but this year he will square off with Ross Tice.

On paper I think we're only supposed to win two matches

me and Ison

Tucker, a redshirt junior from Martin's Ferry, said. We're going to have sneak a few matches in.

As good as Kent State is, they aren't the best team Ohio has faced this year. They lost to both No. 7 Lehigh, 34-7, and No. 20 Indiana, 38-3.

Tucker said that Kent State is always one of the top two teams in the MAC and that Ohio is going to have to give 100 percent if they are going to have a chance.

Our guys will go out there and fight their tails off

Greenlee said.
