Student Senate frequently receives criticism about its relations with the student body of Ohio University. While, according to the organization's constitution, Senate represents the entirety of the student population, both graduate and undergraduate, many have asserted the representation is not accurately holistic and certain factions are underrepresented. This has been a proverbial issue of sorts within Senate, and will probably continue to be a work-in-process for some time to come.
In the meantime, senators are making efforts to reach out to their constituents, and are always willing to speak with or gain feedback from students outside the population they were elected to represent, especially if said students feel their voice is not accurately or thoroughly heard. That being said, the Residence Life commission of Student Senate is hosting its quarterly project, Slices with Senate
at 8 p.m. today in Read lobby. The program, which is offering free pizza to all attendees, is a great opportunity for any interested or curious student to share their opinions in an informal setting, figure out what Senate is all about and what Senate has to offer them.
Last quarter, at the West Green Slices with Senate, students from on and off campus provided feedback about the lighting safety in Athens and at Ohio University. They also were able to offer advice about having a centralized mail center for each residential Green.
A variety of members from Student Senate will be attending this event, so questions or comments regarding any topic will be addressed. Student Senate invites all interested students (from any Green, in any college, graduate or undergraduate, etc.) to attend and participate in this event! With your assistance through events such as Slices with Senate, Senate can only improve its service to you as a truly representative student voice on campus.
