It isn't often a team has to play against two opponents in the same game, but the Bobcats have been doing just that lately and without much success.
Ohio was preparing for a weekend match up with Furman last weekend when Mother Nature took the field and canceled the entire series because of rain.
She came back this week and threw the Bobcats another curveball. Games scheduled for Monday and yesterday were also canceled because of freezing temperatures.
In total, six games have to be canceled. So far, none of the games will be made up.
The nine-day layoff is something both players and coaches want to get over.
It's been frustrating
second baseman Zach Keen said. We had our start a couple of weekends ago and started a little rough getting out of the gate. We want to counterbalance that and get to a fresh start.
In baseball, you want to stay on a roll and you don't want to sit around for too long.
The weather has hurt us, coach Joe Carbone said. In order to get better you need to play. Our guys need to get comfortable with whatever they're doing - pitching, hitting, defense.
We need to get out there and hit and take ground balls.
The Bobcats (1-3) will look to beat Mother Nature one more time as they take on Pittsburgh (1-2) today in their home opener.
Pitt is coming off its own layoff. The Panthers' weekend series against New Jersey Tech was also rained out.
The Bobcats are hoping to gain a slight advantage being home.
Known as the 12th Man in football, Ohio will be looking to get that same impact from the home stadium and get off to a strong start.
Last season, the Bobcats finished with a 14-13 record at home. This season, Carbone is looking for a better home finish.
We'd like to win 75 percent of our games at home Carbone said. We'd like to go out there and beat Pitt. They've got a good program and a good team in the Big East.
It's a 'protect this house' kind of thing Keen said. You want to get the new guys settled into the home atmosphere.
Home games are very important. You can kind of get a feel of how your season's going based on that record at home.
If Mother Nature allows them
