Theo Scott was back on the football field yesterday.
The senior quarterback has fully recovered from a broken collarbone he suffered in the second week of this past season against Ohio State.
I think
physically he's 100 percent quarterback coach Gerry Gdowski said.
Gdowski said with an injury, it's just a matter of the bone healing completely. He said it's not something that is going to slow Scott down at this point.
Head coach Frank Solich said the injury slowed him down as far developing his strength and getting bigger. But other than that, Scott is ready to go.
Now that he's ready to go, Scott's got to get comfortable again.
Both Gdowski and Solich said creating chemistry with the receivers and getting his mechanics down are the main focus of spring training for Scott.
Once you're out for a period of time
timing has got to come into play again
Solich said.
Solich said timing involves things like anticipation, knowing when to get the ball released and reading defensive coverages.
All those things you can study as much film as you want but those are all things you need to get done on the field
and of course Theo hasn't had that for quite awhile
Solich said.
It will take a little while to get it all back.
Boo Jackson, a senior who replaced Scott as the starting quarterback last season, took snaps first when the Bobcats ran their offense in 7-on-7 and full-squad drills, but that's only because Jackson won a coin flip.
They both have proven that they can be the guy for us
Solich said. Now it's just a matter of competing
and competing again and winning the job.
Competing for a job is nothing new to Jackson or Scott. They competed for the job last season
and Scott came out on top.
Who starts for the Bobcats next season isn't likely to be resolved this spring
Solich said.
There are only 15 practices
