Ohio came into Sunday's game against Buffalo trying to rewrite the record book.
The Bobcats accomplished that goal, but not in the way they had hoped.
Ohio came into its Senior Day game trying to cap off the sixth-best single-season home record in school history. But they instead became the first team in the last 19 seasons to lose in its seniors' last regular season home game.
The Bobcats blew a 10-point lead with 3:35 remaining to lose on Senior Day for the first time since the 1989-90 season. It was also the first time the Bobcats lost to Buffalo at The Convo since they joined the MAC before the 1998-99 season.
An emotional win against Miami Thursday paired with a rare noon Sunday game may have played a factor in the Bobcats' demise.
I was concerned with our ability to get mentally prepared for this one
coach John Groce said in Sunday's post-game press conference. That was a difficult loss. I feel bad for the three seniors.
Ohio came into the game just two games behind the division-leading Bulls and Bowling Green. But with the loss, the Bobcats remain in sole possession of last place and have now lost three of their last four games.
Non-profit line
Ohio has led the conference in free-throw shooting for much of the year, but has fallen flat from the charity stripe as of late.
The Bobcats were just 13-of-25 from the free-throw line against the Bulls. Ohio was just 1-of-5 from the free-throw line in the last 3:35 of the game. Michael Allen was 0-for-3 from the line during that time frame.
Allen is just 6-of-13 from the free-throw line in his last three games. Ohio is shooting just 51-of-87 (58 percent) from the line its last four.
Coleman improving
One bright spot for the Bobcats has been freshman guard Steven Coleman.
Coleman has scored in double figures in all but one of his last five games. He tied a career-high with 21 points in Thursday's win over Miami.
The Melbourne, Fla. native has been deadly from both the field and 3-point range in his recent streak. He is shooting 78 percent from the field and 71 percent from beyond the arc in that span. 2
