The rust showed on the Bobcats, even for top finisher Stewart Jamieson.
After taking the winter off before the spring portion of their season, Ohio finished 10th in the Argonaut Invitational at Pensacola Country Club.
Jamieson finished in 15th for the tournament, shooting a plus-5 221, but he said there were definitely some shots he wishes he could take back.
I played well on the par-5's and had a lot of birdies
but there were definitely some uncharacteristic holes I had that I wish I could take back Jamieson said.
Jamieson has consistently been a top finisher for Ohio, and his performance at Pensacola secured his spot as the top scorer for the Bobcats with a stroke-per-round average of 74.7.
I think a big thing with my game is my simple shot and how easy it is for me to repeat it said Jamieson. If I hit a bad shot
I usually know what went wrong and how to correct it next time out.
Besides Jamieson, Ohio wasn't able to capitalize on the momentum it had built from Monday when they finished fifth in the second round with a 291. Ohio shot a plus-22 310 to close out the tournament, moving them down from eighth to 10th.
We obviously didn't play too well today
said head coach Bob Cooley. We had a lot of trouble on the greens
and I don't really know why we did.
Cooley wanted to improve on the Bobcats' short game going into the end of fall, but said there hasn't been an opportunity for his golfers to work on them except at their first two spring tournaments.
We haven't gotten too much of a chance to practice since we don't get as many chances with the weather being cold
he said.
Chuck Nettles finished as the second-best Bobcat in his first tournament of the season. The sophomore shot a 7 in the final round to give him a plus-15 231. He finished 41st.
I definitely tried my best to improve as much as possible over the break
Nettles said. I took some trips to some great pro courses just to hone my game.
Nettles said he went to two courses in Florida and also the famous Pinehurst Golf Resort in North Carolina for practice.
When asked if he could keep his solid streak going, Nettles said there's still plenty of things he needs to work on.
I'm just taking this tournament as one step along the road
Nettles said.
I know what things I need to work on
and there's plenty of them
but I know can be successful this spring.
