Ohio University scrapped a plan Monday to make its employees pay more to visit Holzer Clinic, a proposed money-saving move that created an intense backlash on campus.
Holzer and the university reached a verbal agreement that will keep Holzer a Tier 1 provider under the employee healthcare plan until June 30, 2010, according to a university news release.

Holzer Clinic remains a preferred provider for Ohio University
ATHENS, Ohio (March 16, 2009) -Ohio University and Holzer Clinic reached a verbal one-year agreement today that enables the university to maintain Holzer Clinic as a Tier 1 provider within its PPO health plan through June 30, 2010.
Tier 1 providers are preferred members of the healthcare plan. Employees pay less for office visits, co-payments and co-insurance for Tier 1 providers than they do for Tier 2 providers covered under the PPO plan.
Ohio University and Holzer Clinic will continue discussions to determine if a longer arrangement is feasible.
