As members of the Print Club of Cleveland, R. Budd and Janet Kelsey Werner have accumulated an assortment of prints from the Cleveland Museum of Art. Now, their collection can be seen locally at the Kennedy Museum of Art until Sunday.
The Print Club was founded in 1916 to support the print collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art. Each year, the museum commissions an artist to do a piece, and each member of the Print Club gets a print. The Werners, who have lived in Athens for over a decade and are also members of the Kennedy Museum, recently have decided to share their collection with the town.
They've been collecting these prints over almost 50 years
said Beth Tragert, an administrative associate for the Kennedy Museum. They decided that at this point they wanted to donate the collection where more people could enjoy it.
Issued between 1964 and 2008, the prints have no theme at all.
[Each print shows] the style and content of whatever that artist decided she added. That's what nice about this show ... there's every kind of theme and technique.
Since the collection's opening in February, Tragert said the response has been positive.
People have been pretty impressed with the collection
she said. The museum is really proud to have [it]. It's a really significant donation.
