An Ohio University graduate student faces a criminal mischief charge after allegedly destroying his Riverpark Towers apartment this weekend, causing about $4,500 worth of damage.
Michael Quimjian, 24, ravaged the windows, doors and walls of his fourth-floor apartment at 38 N. McKinley Ave., said Lt. Randy Gray of the Athens Police Department, adding the windows were custom-made and installed about a year ago.
He got pissed off at the world and destroyed the place
Gray said.
Quimjian was alone in the apartment when he lost control, damaging furniture, clothing, a television and electronic equipment between Saturday evening and Sunday morning, Gray said.
Quimjian was upset with his roommate's friend, also an OU graduate student, and issued threats, but Gray said they were fabricated and unfounded adding that no criminal menacing charge was filed.
Riverpark Towers maintenance reported the damage after seeing a broken window Sunday morning, he said.
Criminal mischief is a third-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to 60 days in prison and a $500 fine.
Quimjian left Athens for his home in Granville, Ohio, after the incident, Gray said. Gray did not know if alcohol was a factor in the outburst.
Riverpark Towers staff would not comment about the damages.
Quimjian could not be reached for comment.
He was unable to control his temper and went pretty ballistic Gray said.
