Women's Basketball: Bobcats fall to No. 25 Bowling Green

The Bobcats shot 48.2 percent from the floor and hit 6-of-12 shots from 3-point range. They even pulled down 35 rebounds to Bowling Green's 24.

Jennifer Bushby knows Ohio let an opportunity slip away.

The Bobcats couldn't outduel No. 25 Bowling Green at Anderson Arena on Saturday despite shooting as well as they have all year. They fell 79-64 to the top team in the league in Ohio's last warm-up before the Mid-American Conference Tournament.

Ohio secured the No. 3 seed in the MAC East Division and will face Western Michigan, the No. 6 seed in the MAC West Division, in the first round on Wednesday at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

But disappointment still hung over the postgame locker room and the bus ride home, Bushby said.

We're definitely disappointed said the junior, who led the team with a season-high 25 points and seven assists. We had the opportunities.

Bushby was playing in her second game back after an undisclosed injury in practice last week. But that didn't matter to her.

The individual stuff doesn't matter if we don't win she said. We need to translate me performing well into the whole team performing well.

The numbers looked good for Ohio, but a few bad habits crept back up on them.

They turned the ball over 20 times and the Falcons translated those miscues into 28 points on the other end. Ohio only mustered seven points off Bowling Green's 14 turnovers.

Bowling Green dominated in the paint despite Ohio's rebounding advantage, outscoring the Bobcats by 10.

If Ohio is going to find success in the postseason, coach Semeka Randall said, some players besides the veteran guards are going to have to step up.

They really pounded the ball inside

she said. They exploited our smaller players.

We just got to get more from our bench, something from our post the second time around.

Ohio still had a chance to win with less than eight minutes to go

but the defense broke down at the worst moment.

Bowling Green led 57-56 with 7:46 left. Then Niki McCoy hit a jumper in the paint

Sarah Clapper knocked down another

Tara Breske laid in a basket and Lauren Prochaska nailed a 3-pointer. The 13-4 run lasted less than four minutes.

But it was enough.

We have to commit to defense, Bushby said when asked about moving forward. It starts with defensive pressure and help rotation.

We'll be okay.
