Your Turn: 'Post' writer fails to mention European state involvement in Jewish emigration

His observation is a pretense at objectivity; only a pretense because otherwise, the entirety of his column consists of citations of events, which, in isolation, make Israel look bad. The Israelis and Palestinians suffered tremendously during the recent events observes Post columnist Alex Homan, (Israel breaches international law to punish Palestinians

The Post, March 9, 09). His observation is a pretense at objectivity; only a pretense because otherwise, the entirety of his column consists of citations of events, which, in isolation, make Israel look bad.

Mr. Homan ignores the highly significant acts of other involved parties. The part the European states played in the emigration of their Jewish populations to Palestine at the close of World War II, Mr. Homan doesn't mention. How the leaders of the Islamic tribes of the area reacted to the arrival in their midst of thousands of impecunious and mortified victims of the Holocaust, none of whom were Moslems, Mr. Homan ignores.

Lastly, Mr. Homan fails to address the indispensable question that any critic of Israel must deal with. With guns at your back and with bombs greeting you upon your arrival, what would you have done? Whatever the answer, to ignore the fact that the Jews who arrived on the shores of Palestine were forced to flee there because of being Jewish, then forced to fight to stay there because they weren't Moslem, is to ignore the actual situation.

Israel has always sought to settle its border disputes peacefully, but it's hard to negotiate with someone who thinks you are an agent of Satan because you don't follow the Prophet, peace be upon Him. Hamas, the religiously motivated thugs who run Gaza, won't stop until Israel leaves all occupied territory, except Hamas believes that every square inch of Israel is occupied territory.

Hamas, Fatah, Hezbollah, The Moslem Brotherhood, even al Qaida, could all live in wondrous peace in veritable Gardens of Eden if only they would allow Israel to share that bounty. Clearly, that is a solution that those organizations want no part of, and neither does Mr. Homan.
