The pop rock band Triangle Pancakes is comprised of Ohio University college students, but being from the same hometown, they have been playing music together for a long time - and have known each other even longer.
In fact, bassist Kevin Pugar and guitarist Paul Ceccarelli had a connection before they were even born.
Our dads went to college together at Gannon University in Pennsylvania
so we've known each other our whole lives Ceccarelli said.
Raised in Dayton, Pugar and Ceccarelli started the band in August 2002 but did not find lead vocalist Jesse Deegan until a band practice in summer 2003. It was also about this time that the group decided on the band name Triangle Pancakes.
(The name) is from the movie The Sixth Sense Ceccarelli said. From when the mom told the kid she was proud of him. She told him she was going to make him triangle pancakes. ... Our other potential name was Foam Rubber Pillows.
With a name nailed down, the group started playing in teen clubs like The Gathering Grounds and The Attic, both in Kettering. The band released its first full-length album, Smash It Up, in late 2004. But once the band members began college at OU in fall 2005, they started to gear their sound more to the bars than the teen scene.
Once we came here and started playing bars
we started picking up more covers so that we could fill a whole set
Ceccarelli said. We started climbing the playing ability ladder.
As they went up that ladder, the band added drummer Brad Dunn to their line-up in mid-2007. The band had gone through a series of drummers before, but none stuck until Dunn.
With a solid line-up in place, the group released its second full-length album, The Up Side of Going Down, in November 2008 and has been focusing on playing shows at 19 South and getting its name out to the industry.
We had a talent agent come check us out from Straight Arrow Records in Dayton. He said he'd let us know soon
Pugar said. ...And Hennigan
the 19 South house band
has a big following and we have been turning some of their fans into our fans. We hope to be 19 South's house band next year.
