Baseball: Bobcats defeat Cardinals

Krauss said. We're all pretty competitive guys.

It wasn't too hard getting going.

,Marc Krauss finally had the chance to play in a midweek game.

The Bobcats hadn't played on a Tuesday or Wednesday in two weeks because of rainouts.

Yet from the looks of game one of yesterday's doubleheader against Otterbein

Krauss didn't need much to get the competitive juices flowing.

With the ball carrying out Krauss crushed two home runs and was a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate in Ohio's 11-3 victory against the Cardinals. Ohio also won the second game 14-1. Both games were played to seven innings.

We were ready to play, Krauss said. We're all pretty competitive guys.

It wasn't too hard getting going.

Krauss, Ohio's left fielder, got going very quickly for the Bobcats.

Ohio was tied 2-2 in the third inning when Krauss put the Bobcats back ahead with a solo home run to left field on a 3-2 pitch.

Marc is a guy who does well with two strikes coach Joe Carbone said. When you get to two strikes he doesn't try to do too much.

Krauss did more than enough against the Otterbein pitchers.

After Trace Voshell hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning to give the Bobcats additional breathing room, Krauss doubled down the right-field line to score Gauntlett Eldemire from first base. That hit put Ohio ahead 7-2 and in control of the game.

Even with two hits and a comfortable lead, Krauss wasn't done.

In the sixth, he padded his Bobcats' lead with a two-run homer to left field. Unlike his first, which he crushed, Krauss's second home run was a fly ball that carried over the fence.

With 19 home runs this season, Krauss is now only one away from tying the Ohio single-season record.

I know he's not even concerned about it

Carbone said of the record.

Krauss didn't break the record in game two, going 0-for-3 from the plate.

But it didn't matter.

Eldemire, the Bobcats' center fielder, picked up right where Krauss left off.

After Otterbein took a 1-0 lead in the first, Eldemire didn't wait to erase the Cardinals' lead.

On the first pitch he saw, Eldemire homered off Otterbein starter Matt Hopkins to right-center field. Two outs later, first baseman Robert Maddox III tripled to score Krauss, who was hit by a pitch, to give Ohio (22-16, 13-5 Mid-American Conference) a 2-1 lead.

Eldemire added a two-run homer in the fourth and starter Brent Choban cruised after a shaky start.

It was funny; between games I told (Eldemire) that you'll probably get a couple of home runs and I probably won't get any hits

Krauss said. That's exactly what happened.

I don't have to do well for our team to do well.
