Although the agenda for the Ohio University Board of Trustees included a resolution naming a new chairperson, the board's governance committee decided to delay yesterday's vote because of personal problems for the potential successors.
Vice-Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees Marnette Perry was resolved to be the board's chairwoman for one year starting May 14, with Trustee C. Robert Kidder taking her vacant position, according to the board's agenda.
Although both had agreed to those positions, separate personal problems arose for each, said Norman Ned Dewire, chairman of the board's governance committee.
Dewire said he would meet with the two trustees to determine who can meet the position's time requirements, and will announce who will replace Chairman C. Daniel DeLawder at today's full board meeting.
Both of their lives have become complicated with things we didn't know three weeks ago
he said, declining to specify
further.
Trustee Larry Schey said one official can fill in for the other, depending on who is available.
Our bylaws are very clear if the chair is unable to attend the meeting the vice chair assumes all the powers so we're covered regardless
he said.
