Three candidates for Ohio University executive vice president and provost will visit campus the week of May 4 for further interviews and forums with students and staff.
The search committee charged with finding a replacement for Kathy Krendl chose Pam Benoit, Susan Carlson and Nat Frazer after looking through about 30 applications and doing five airport interviews.
Benoit is vice provost for advanced studies and dean of the graduate school at the University of Missouri. She has a degree in speech and previously chaired Missouri's communication department. The University of Missouri has about 30,000 students.
Carlson is an English professor, associate provost for faculty advancement and diversity, and principal investigator for ISU ADVANCE at Iowa State University. ISU ADVANCE is an effort to measure the effectiveness of an initiative to increase female involvement in science, technology, engineering and math. Carlson served as interim provost at Iowa from June to December 2006.
Frazer is a professor and dean of the College of Natural Resources at Utah State University. He has a bachelor's and master's degree in history and a doctorate in ecology. He was previously a professor and department chairman at the University of Florida.
Krendl, whose base salary is $254,921, has been OU's provost since April 2005 and will become president of Otterbein College in July. Last year, she was a finalist for the presidency at Elmhurst College outside Chicago.
OU administrators plan to have a new provost in place by July 1.
The search for Krendl's replacement began a bit later than intended because the initial committee appointed did not conform to Faculty Handbook requirements. OU President Roderick McDavis formed a new committee in early February to address faculty concerns about the original committee's size and make-up.
OU also hired a search firm to help find candidates.
Correction: The original version of this story reported that the university was doing six airport interviews. The Post regrets the error.
