Local indie sextet Kaslo returns to the laid-back atmosphere of Donkey Coffee and Espresso tomorrow with female-fronted pop group Super Desserts.
Vocalist/guitarist Teddy Humpert, an Ohio University graduate student studying medieval studies, and guitarist Clay Flaherty, an OU alumnus, began performing as an acoustic duo. They formed Kaslo while getting their undergraduate degrees at OU and have been performing together for more than three years.
Kaslo is currently settling back into the Athens music scene after touring across the Midwest this winter.
We played 12 dates
in 14 days in six different states Flaherty said of the band's tour.
One of the venues was the Beat Kitchen in Chicago, where the band got to play with Philadelphia indie/folk musician Denison Witmer.
Now Kaslo returns to Donkey, where it usually plays once a quarter, said Christopher Pyle, owner of the coffeehouse.
They tend to play differently at Donkey then they do at the bars ...
Pyle said. (Kaslo's) vulnerable and I like that
because I feel rock 'n' roll guys can really pose. They can play up-tempo and slow down both very well
which shows the maturity of the band.
Fans are also anticipating Kaslo's return to Donkey.
I'm excited to see them play (at Donkey) because I've been hearing good things about them recently
said Tom Santelle, an OU sophomore studying audio production who has seen Kaslo play at The Union.
One of those good things
Kaslo's most recent album, Ohio EP, can be downloaded at the band's Web site, www.kasloband.com.
Even with a tour and new album, Kaslo is still all about the musicianship.
We have no illusions about getting rich
said Flaherty. We're just in it for the music - and the beer.
