Local man comes forward, could face felony charges, fine

Another person of interest in February's New Marshfield shooting case turned himself in yesterday, after Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly filed a warrant for his arrest.

John W. Perry, Jr. faces a third degree felony charge of tampering with evidence after his alleged involvement in the aggravated robbery and murder on Feb. 15. Kelly alleged that Perry was present at the scene of the shooting.

Perry is the fifth person to face criminal charges after Donnie Putman's murder. A grand jury indicted Phillip D. Boler of New Marshfield, Hamda A. Jama of Columbus and Mohat M. Osman of Columbus for murder and aggravated robbery on Feb. 20. All are members of a Columbus-based drug gang.

A 17-year-old, Abdifatah Abdi, was charged with aggravated robbery and murder Feb. 15 in juvenile court. County prosecutors have yet to decide whether or not Abdi will be tried as an adult.

Eric. C. Fussner of Nelsonville was originally indicted, but charges were later dropped because Fussner reportedly was forced to participate, his attorney said in a previous interview.

Perry faces up to five years in jail and a $10,000 fine.
