The Bobcats can see the Mid-American Conference Championships in their sights.
Ohio will use the Fossum Invitational as its final tune-up before heading to Indianapolis for the MAC Championships next week.
Coach Bob Cooley said that this weekend will be a great way for the Bobcats to shore up all aspects of their game.
I'm definitely trying to visualize my shot better
junior Chad Warmbein said.
Ohio has momentum on its side.
The fourth-place finish at the UK Bluegrass Invitational was made even more impressive because the Bobcats jumped six places in the final round. A good tournament this weekend could build the momentum even more.
Michigan State is a very good team junior Tim Gusweiler said. If we can give them a run and have strong performance it'll definitely help with our confidence.
Cooley offered similar points, saying that a good performance for his top three players (Warmbein, Gusweiler and junior Stewart Jamieson) could bolster Ohio's confidence for the MAC Championships.
The trio has been Ohio's most consistent and best players since the fall.
On the flip side, the tournament has huge implications for the last two spots on the championship team. Senior James Ellis, sophomore Chuck Nettles and freshman John Mlynarski are the ones vying for those spots.
I can only choose two of them for this weekend's tournament
Cooley said. Those two's performances could make or break who goes for us in the MACs.
Cooley said he hadn't decided which two he would play this weekend. He also said that the one who sits could get the nod for Indianapolis.
The golfers said that they would have full confidence in themselves if the tournament were today.
On the last day of the Wildcat Invitational
we were the low team and beat two very good teams in Kentucky and Central Florida
Jamieson said.
I think we have a huge amount of confidence coming down the stretch.
