Stewart Jamieson said it best.
Jamieson said the Bobcats must compete at a high level in the Mid-American Conference Championships, which begins today at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course.
During the season
we could always throw out a bad performance and move on towards the next tournament Jamieson said. That's not the case here.
We want to end the year finishing as strong as possible.
The Bobcats have golfed against all of the other teams in their conference except Eastern Michigan and Kent State which means Ohio should have a good idea of what to expect.
We've beaten all of the MAC teams we played in tournaments this year, coach Bob Cooley said. But they have all beaten us at some point too.
We could finish first if we put it all together
but if things go bad
we can find ourselves near the bottom.
Cooley said the tournament should be like last year, when the teams were closely matched.
Ohio finished seventh, but only four strokes back from fourth place.
It just shows that every shot is going to count
Cooley said.
Three of the five Bobcats participating in the championship were on that team. Juniors Chad Warmbein, Tim Gusweiler and Jamieson have gained experience since and will try to rebound from last year.
The three of us are definitely smarter players compared to where we were last year
Jamieson said. It was good experience for all of us to get in there last year
and we'll definitely be more comfortable.
Warmbein has been on the last two MAC Championship squads, so he's seen all the ups and downs the tournament has to offer.
Last year we had the lead after the first round
but then slipped off a little
Warmbein said. We proved early last year that we have a chance to win this.
We just have to play as consistently as possible.
Cooley said for the team to succeed
it will have to hit their second shots well. He said the course isn't tough to drive on
