New Board of Trustees resolutions to be debated in Student Senate

Ohio University Student Senators are submitting two new resolutions regarding the Board of Trustees.

The first of the two resolutions asks that senate “create research tools to gauge student understanding of the nature and function of the Ohio University Board of Trustees.”

The resolution also calls for tools to gather both “qualitative and quantitative feedback” from a large statistical cross section of the student body.

The second resolution calls for a ballot initiative reviewing the Board of Trustees’ performance. The resolution calls for a set of five questions to be added to the ballot with statements about the board, allowing students to rate the board’s performance from 1 to 5.

The resolution also calls for three information sessions to be held prior to the election by a neutral member of senate.

The resolutions come a week after a pair of ballot initiatives related to the Board of Trustees were voted down by the senate. One resolution called for a vote of confidence in the board while the other called for a vote on whether or not student trustees should be popularly elected. Both votes would have been added to the senate’s spring election ballot.

Molly Shea, sponsor of the two failed initiatives, was not listed as a sponsor on the two new resolutions.

The resolutions will be heard and debated tomorrow at Student Senate’s weekly meeting, 7 p.m. in Margaret M. Walter Hall room 235.
