Ronald Berkman, who received the presidential nod from Cleveland State University’s Board of Trustees Sunday night, will replace Michael Schwartz in July with a $400,000 base salary — higher than the salaries of presidents at the University of Akron, University of Toledo, Kent State, Ohio University and Miami University, which range from $332,000 to $392,000.
Schwartz, who is retiring, earned $308,000. Berkman is the executive vice president and provost at Florida International University in Miami.
OU President Roderick McDavis was awarded an $85,000 raise (29 percent) in June 2008, bringing his base salary to $380,000 and fourth in a list of seven other Ohio schools that OU’s Board of Trustees’ Executive Committee used in a market analysis.
