OU drops in 'Playboy' party school ranking

There are 17 party schools in the country ranked higher than Ohio University, according to Playboy magazine's latest list.

The list, which featured OU in seventh place in 2006 and lists the University of Miami at No. 1 this year, will now be a regular feature in the magazine.

OSU might have the football prowess

but the students in Athens are pros at having a good time. Their Halloween party might be the best in the country reads the magazine's write-up of OU.

Schools are ranked based on total points from categories including availability of sex, campus life, academics, sports and a combination of cheerleader rankings, weather and guy-to-girl ratio, called bikini.

Playboy could not provide an interview by deadline yesterday.

Alex Guthart, a sophomore studying chemistry, said she didn't find OU's drop in rankings that surprising, as the school's guest fee for Halloween limits the city's biggest party.

If that's what they want to say OU is it doesn't bother me. It's just a namesake

she said.

Dean of Students Ryan Lombardi said he does not give the list much credence.

One can certainly question the system of methodology

he said. I don't know an easy way to delineate a difference (between thousands of four-year schools)

he added.

Lombardi added he has not seen a huge difference in student bodies among the schools of which he's been a part.

OU ranks fifth on Princeton Review's most recent list of best party schools, up from 9th.

Harriet Brand, Princeton Review's director of public relations, said her rival company's rankings are based on 120,000 student surveys and cover a wide range of categories in college life.

The purpose of it is to help students make decisions on colleges that they wish to attend

not to grab headlines

she said.
