On Wednesday, April 1, I attended a Student Senate meeting for the first time so that I could show my support for the proposal to add a vote of confidence in the voting members of the Board of Trustees to the May 16 Senate ballot. As a student at Ohio University, I feel that I should have the right to at least voice my opinion about the people who wield the most power here at OU. Much to my surprise, and dismay, 22 of the 34 Student Senators did not feel the same way; their main argument being that the students of Ohio University do not have the knowledge or understanding of the Board of Trustees to form such an opinion. Well, to those 22 senators, I say to you that I do have the knowledge and that your feeble arguments were insulting to all of those whom you supposedly represent. Wednesday night, 10 students came to the Student Senate to show their support of this proposal. Ten students who asked to have the chance for their voice to be heard; 10 students who you denied a voice. On Wednesday, 22 of you chose not to represent those who elected you into a position of power; but fear not, you will have the chance to redeem yourselves next week. We will be back.
