Softball: Marshall doubleheader to end Ohio seniors' home careers

Jill Viguers and Allie Farrington are about to turn the page on their Bobcat softball careers.

The seniors will be playing their final games at the Ohio Softball Field when the Bobcats take on Marshall in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. today.

Their thoughts are on anything but their last home game.

We just need to win

Viguers said. I wasn't really thinking of it as my last game because it's not the last game of the season.

Especially because of the weekend and the festivities were really special. That was kind of the closure for me.

Sunday was Senior Day for the Bobcats because it was easier for the seniors' parents to make the trip to Athens.

In front of friends and family both girls were able to get into the game in the final inning as pinch hitters.

It was great (getting into the game), Farrington said. Both Jill and I are capable hitters at any time. It was nice because people who don't normally get to see us get into games were able to watch us.

It was nice to get that extra support.

Playing softball for Ohio gave the women much more than just a chance to play on the collegiate level.

Farrington said that the friendships she made during her time in Athens are something that will be with her forever.

I don't think that there is anything that we have been able to learn here that we could have learned anywhere else Farrington said. The experience of being a part of this team is irreplaceable.

The Bobcats will get a break from Mid-American Conference play, but the opponent won't be any easier.

After a weekend of playing two of the MAC's top teams in Miami and Ball State, Ohio (21-20, 11-9 MAC) will take on the Marshall Thundering Herd. Marshall (27-17) comes into the week hitting .293 as a team and with a combined ERA of 2.95.

Bobcat pitchers will be faced with the task of trying to quiet three tough Herd hitters.

J.J. Bitner leads the team in hitting at .378, and the duo of Aliana Telles and Rebecca Gamby lead Marshall with six home runs on the season.

I think were going to come out and be ready to play

Farrington said.
