There really is no place like home.
The Bobcats won nearly every event in the Green and White Invitational, leaving athletes from visiting schools Savannah State and Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne overmatched.
Junior Bahiyjaui Allen won the shot put with a mark of 15.28 meters and the discus with a throw of 46.11 meters to lead the Bobcat attack on a windy Saturday morning at Goldsberry Track.
It's always good to be at the home track
coach Clay Calkins said. We had two big weekends coming into this with Wake (Forest) Cincinnati and Stanford
so we wanted to have a meet where we could work more on technique.
In addition to coaching, Calkins had the added duty of running the meet. He was often seen carrying the starting blocks back and forth across the track.
Time management is key
he said. We have to get a lot of stuff done before the meet even starts.
Senior Brittany Vinson won the 100-meter dash (12.77 seconds). Junior Cathy Udeani won the high jump with a mark of 1.6 meters. Freshman Courtney Weiss won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.56 and was part of the 4x400-meter relay team, which won with a time of 4:08.84.
No team scores were kept, however, as many of the events had only Ohio runners in them.
After relaxing at home, the Bobcats will now gear up for a tough three-week stretch.
We have three monumental-caliber meets coming up
Calkins said. There's (the Miami Invitational) next week with 18 teams
then All-Ohio with every team in the state
followed by Hillsdale with close to 50 teams.
With the elevated competition, hopefully we'll have elevated performances in the next three weeks.
