The Bobcats will be seeing some familiar foes this weekend.
Every track and field team in Ohio will be at Miami University in Oxford for the All-Ohio Outdoor Championships. Many teams attending are from the Mid-American Conference - teams that Ohio will be seeing again.
This is going to be a good gauge for us to see how we stack up against those teams
coach Clay Calkins said.
The Bobcats, who have not raced a full team in weeks, will be almost at full strength.
We're running about 95 percent of our top athletes this week Calkins said. We're still being somewhat strategic with our distance runners.
The distance runners he talked about were juniors Kari Summers and Annie Beecham, who will compete in the 1,500-meter run this weekend instead of their usual 5,000-meter run.
Calkins said that he is still trying to get them ready for the latter part of the season. That includes the MAC Championships and the NCAA Regional Championships.
In the mean time, the depth of the distance team will be on display again, as it has been during the past few meets.
Calkins said that the distance team did a good job at the Miami Invitational last week and that they could potentially get big points this weekend.
We've got some people who have placed well Calkins said. Hopefully they can fill in the gaps.
The throwers will look to get back on track after some of their worst performances of the year last week at the Sea Ray Relays.
You're going to have an off weekend every once in a while
Calkins said. We're also dealing with some minor injury issues.
Calkins didn't specify who was injured, but he said that it was nothing chronic and that the team would work it out during practice.
One bad week won't kill you
he said.
Calkins said that the University of Cincinnati as well as Akron, Kent State and Miami will be the biggest challenges.
Our goal is to finish in the top three
and that's going to be a tall order
he said.
