Track: Well-rounded showing ensures 5th-place All-Ohio finish

Ohio had a well-rounded performance on its way to a fifth-place finish at the All-Ohio Outdoor Championships in Oxford Saturday.

Kristen Altenburger won the 10,000-meter run with a time of 38:30.47. She was the only Bobcat to take first in any event.

It was a solid performance

coach Clay Calkins said. We didn't have any outstanding performances but we had a lot of athletes scoring points.

Junior Bahiyjaui Allen finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 14.82 meters. For the second straight week, however, her throws were less than 15 meters, well under her season best throw of 15.34 meters.

Calkins said that the throwers were dealing with some injuries earlier in the week, but was not specific on who was injured.

[Allen] has some nagging things going on still Calkins said. But we came out here to compete

and that's what we did.

He said he would continue to work out the injuries during practice.

As for the rest of the throwers, junior Emily Amendola took third in the hammer throw with a mark of 56.54 meters. Senior Susan Plungis placed second in the javelin with a mark of 41.51 meters. Senior Jessica Tanner finished fourth in javelin and fifth in discus with throws of 38.60 meters and 46.16 meters, respectively.

Senior Melissa Wiley had another top-five performance in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing fourth with a time of 1:03.20.

Sophomore Kristi Sturges took fifth in long jump (5.62 meters) and eighth in triple jump (10.35 meters). Brittany Vinson placed in the same two events, finishing seventh in both with marks of 5.55 meters and 10.51 meters, respectively.

Vinson took fifth in the 4 x 100-meter relay with a time of 48.32 seconds.

Cathy Udeani finished fifth in high jump with a mark of 1.65 meters, rounding out the top finishes for the jumpers.

Calkins said it was great to finish in the top five without winning more than one event.

We had a lot of athletes performing well

he said. It was a great performance.
